ConnectR 4.1.7 Release Notes

ConnectR 4.1.7 (build 4.1.7.57) requires an appliance running either of the following:

  • Messaging Operating System (MOS) 4.1.6 or higher.
  • Messaging Operating System (MOS) 3.10.6 or higher.

Important: Each person in your end-user population should run a clean sync after upgrading to the new ConnectR client. See Synchronizing Your Calendar From Scratch for instructions that you can pass on to your end-users.

Fixed In This Release

ConnectR 4.1.7 contains these fixes:

  • If you created a new contact in Outlook and later added a phone number for that contact using WebMail, a duplicate entry with the new phone number was created when you returned to Outlook and performed a manual sync. (52042)
  • If you found a user using the advanced search functionality in Outlook and added that person to your contacts, a duplicate entry for that contact was created when you performed a manual sync. (52037)
  • If you forwarded a previously sent item in Outlook, the From address of the item changed to the address of the recipient. (51556)

Known Issues In This Release

  • ConnectR 4.1 is not compatible with Microsoft Outlook 2010. If you try to install ConnectR 4.1 on Outlook 2010, the installer returns an error. If you already have ConnectR with Outlook and upgrade to Outlook 2010, you receive no error or warning but ConnectR does not function. A ConnectR release compatible with Outlook 2010 is in progress and will be available when ready. Until then, the workaround is to not upgrade to or install Outlook 2010.
  • When an all-day recurring meeting in a cross time zone is synchronized by the attendee, the last instance fails to appear in the attendee's Outlook calendar. (45658)
  • If your environment includes a proxy server, you cannot synchronize your calendars if the XML versions installed on the proxy and your appliance are different from each other. The most common scenario is when the XML version on the proxy is a lower version than the version on your appliance. (The XML version running on an appliance determined by the MOS release installed.)
    Workaround: Make sure the XML version on both appliances are the same. (44680)
  • Redirected meeting invitations (invitations that are originally sent to a grantor but redirected to a delegate) are identical to those that appear in the delegate's Inbox. (43424)
  • If a delegate invites his/her grantor to a meeting, the event will not get scheduled in the grantor's calendar if the delegate—acting on behalf of the grantor—reads the invitation. (43233)
  • Installing the ConnectR add-in will either disable all your Microsoft Outlook rules (message filters) or render some of them inoperable.
    Workaround:
    • 1. Uninstall your current version of ConnectR.
    • 2. Export your Microsoft Outlook rules.
    • 3. Reinstall ConnectR.
    • 4. In Outlook, delete all your rules.
    • 5. Import your saved rules to Outlook
    Note: Refer to the Outlook online help for instructions on exporting and importing rules. (43129, 40938)
  • Your appliance and the WebCal client support dates between midnight January 1, 1970 and December 31, 2035 only. However, Microsoft Outlook does not have this restriction. If you try to synchronize events whose dates are out of this range, the appliance will ignore them and you will encounter an error notifying you that the event time is not supported by the appliance. Also, please be aware that importing a calendar file that includes an event with an out-of-range date is likely to cause problems with your WebCal calendar.
    Workaround: Do not enter calendar events whose dates are not within the range of midnight January 1, 1970 and December 31, 2035. (41468)
  • If you install ConnectR on a computer running the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system, you might encounter the following dialog boxes. The information below instructs you on what to do if these particular dialog boxes display:
    • You might encounter a dialog box informing you that an unidentified program wants to access your computer:

      To ensure the successful installation of ConnectR, click the Allow option.
    • You might encounter a dialog box informing you that this program might not have installed correctly:

      To ensure the successful installation of ConnectR, click the This program installed correctly option.

  • There is a known problem regarding the installation of ConnectR and certain Microsoft Outlook-compatible plugins and PDAs (personal digital assistants). Important: Before installing ConnectR, you must review the information regarding this problem and follow the instructions provided.
  • In Outlook, you can visually drag a private event in a delegator's calendar to a different time slot or drag an event border to modify the time; however, the changes will not be saved. After making the modification and clicking anywhere within the calendar, the following dialog box will appear:


    Click No in the dialog box. (If you click Yes, a copy of the private event will be saved locally and appear in your calendar. You will be able to modify this copy; but, any changes you make will not be saved to the appliance. To prevent possible confusion, click No in this dialog box.) Regardless of whether you click No or Yes, the modifications you attempted to make to the delegator’s private event will not be saved. Only the delegator can modify or delete his/her private events. To visually restore the private event to its original state, refresh the Outlook display (which you can do by clicking the Mail tab and then clicking the Calendar tab again).

  • Because of a known problem with Microsoft Outlook, you will be able to visually move an event within a grantor's calendar despite the delegator denying you write access. The problem manifests itself in the following scenario:
    • 1. Grantor has previously given you permission to add or modify events in his/her calendar.
    • 2. Within WebCal, delegator changes your access permissions so that you can no longer add or modify events.
    • 3. Within grantor's calendar, you drag an event to a new time.

      Although it appears as if you modified a read-only event, your modification is not actually saved to the appliance. If you switch to another Outlook view (e.g., by clicking the Mail tab), the following dialog box displays:
  • If you add a new Microsoft Outlook user profile, the find-user and free-busy lookup functionality in ConnectR will not work.
    Workaround: After you add a user profile, reinstall and configure ConnectR for that profile.
  • Events set up in Outlook might display in your Calendar with a time zone tag that doesn't match the time zone you've configured for Microsoft Windows and WebCal. For example, the event might display in Calendar with the text "4:00 pm Fri, Apr 29 in time zone America|Los Angeles," even though you configured Windows and WebCal with the America | Tijuana time zone setting. The reason for this discrepancy is that the appliance was configured with a different time zone description. While the time zone description in Windows is "Pacific Time (US and Canada) ; Tijuana", the same time zone is described as "America/Los Angeles" on the appliance. (The appliance has many more mapping choices available than Windows for the same time zone.) (23439)

Known Issues With Microsoft Outlook

The following are known problems with Microsoft Outlook, independent of the ConnectR add-in:

  • When importing a calendar file that was exported from WebMail, Microsoft Outlook 2007 does not import repeating events correctly. Repeating events with no end date are converted to a non-repeating event. Also, if you have a repeating event with a specified end date, only the first instance appears in your Outlook calendar.(48223)
  • A meeting updated from private to non-private is not reflected in an attendee's Outlook calendar even after reading the update email. This is a problem specific to Outlook 2007. (43332)
  • You must restart Outlook so that the proper attendee status is reflected for an event where you have accepted selected occurrences of a recurring meeting. Specifically, the problem occurs in the following scenario: 1) In Outlook, a user schedules a recurring meeting and invites an attendee; 2) Both the meeting organizer and attendee synchronize; 3) In Outlook, the attendee accepts a single occurrence of the meeting and then synchronizes; 4) In WebCal, attendee accepts another single occurrence of the meeting and then synchronizes. In Outlook, the status for the event accepted via WebCal is "Please respond." If the attendee restarts Outlook, the correct status (accepted) is displayed.(38490)
  • If you add an attendee to a meeting you’re currently setting up in Outlook, cancel the invitation, and then save the event, the person will still be listed as an attendee on the Scheduling tab. (37439)
  • There is a known problem in Microsoft Outlook 2003 which causes a modified occurrence of a repeating event to be deleted. Specifically, this problem occurs when an attendee reads the invitation for the modified occurrence before he/she has read the initial invitation. (35310)
  • Reminders may disappear from your Outlook calendar. As part of this problem, you will encounter an error message stating that "there was a problem reading one or more of your reminders". Outlook 2003 and 2007 provide a command-line option (/cleanreminders) to fix this problem. (27327)

Synchronizing Your Calendar From Scratch

After installing the ConnectR 4.1.7 add-in, complete the following steps to synchronize your calendar from scratch:

  • 1. Log in to WebMail/WebCal (Corporate Edition or Standard Edition).
  • 2. Ensure that your calendar data is correct.
    If necessary, resolve any conflicts or problems so that WebMail/WebCal is up to date.
  • 3. Log out of WebMail/WebCal.
  • 4. Start Microsoft Outlook.
  • 5. From the Outlook toolbar, choose Tools > Clean Synchronize using ConnectR.
  • 6. In the dialog box, select the Server to Outlook radio button.

    With this option, ConnectR will replace your calendar data in Outlook with the calendar data from WebMail/WebCal.
  • 7. Click Start.
  • 8. In the warning dialog box, click Yes to proceed with the clean sync.

Note: Only calendar data is affected by a clean sync; contact and task information are not.
